It was the Irish and Scottish distillers who brought the wonderful libation to America. Often, American whisky possesses a rustic quality, a sort of tangy top note too. This is down to the widespread use of virgin oak for the majority of their whiskeys. Tennessee whiskey differs only slightly from bourbon. It is a sour mash whiskey that is filtered through sugar maple charcoal prior to ageing. This technique is known as the Lincoln County Process. There are only two brands that produce Tennessee whiskey: George Dickel and, of course, Jack Daniel’s.

BOX INCLUDED in excellent condition

The Maxwell House Decanter was considered one of the most beautiful of its time and oddly enough it was not Jack Daniel who was responsible for designing it. That honor instead went to Lem Motlow. The origin of this decanter’s name dates back to the year 1859 when Colonel John Overton Jr. began construction on a new hotel in downtown Nashville, Tennessee. Ironically, had it not been for a night out on the town, this hotel might never have been built…

Over the years, the Maxwell House Hotel became a well-known stopping point for famous people passing through the South. Lem Motlow knew of the hotel’s popularity and prestige and saw this as a business opportunity for the Distillery…

To commemorate the decanter that Lem Motlow first presented to Colonel Overton, the Distillery released a half gallon replica bottle in 1971.

1954 would present the opportunity to add another award to the Jack Daniel collection as a whiskey competition was to be held in Brussels, Belgium…Jack Daniel’s whiskey went on to win the Star of Excellence, awarded to whiskeys for a “surpassing of excellence.” This commemorative bottle celebrating that achievement was released in 2005.

Beginning in 1996 and continuing for the next 10 years, the Jack Daniel Distillery released its Gold Medal Series of commemorative bottles. Comprised of seven unique designs, each bottle in this series celebrates a different gold medal won by the Distillery. In the U.S., the series featured 750ml bottles filled with 90 proof whiskey. International markets offer these bottles only in a 1 liter size, with the exception of the first bottle in the series which was available only in the 750ml size.

The bottle we currently have here for sale has been signed by the late Jimmy Bedford, Jack Daniel’s’ sixth master distiller.

This special bottle is the sixth in the Jack Daniels Gold Medal Series and honours the 1954 Brussels Belgium Star of Excellence. As usual, there is a heart-warming story of simple country folk associated with this bottling:

“The story goes that Reagor Motlow, one of Lem’s sons, received a letter about a whisky judging contest in Brussels, Belgium. He handed the letter to Herb Fanning, his right hand man and told him to take care of it. And indeed Mr. Herb did! He walked right out of the production line and pulled off the first three bottles and sent them on their way. According to Mr. Herb, when the folks from the advertising department found he had pulled whisky for the competition from the bottling line, they were a bit upset and asked him why he hadn’t looked for some special whisky for the judging. To this Mr.Herb exclaimed, “Why all Jack Daniels is special!”

Later Mr. Herb, in recalling the story said he figured he might get fired over that, but about that time letter came announcing that Jack Daniels had won the star of Excellence!

The second letter seemed to set things right between Mr.Herb and the advertising team, because not only did Mr.Herb keep his job for many years before retiring, but he also appeared in quite a few Jack Daniels ads. Herb became one of Lynchburg’s best known and much loved citizens, and was a fixture on the Square until he passed away in 1997 at the ripe old age of 93. Mr.Herb’s lifelong love of and faith in Jack Daniels Tennessee Whiskey epitomises the character of the people behind the Jack Daniel Brand.”.

Jack Daniels 125th Anniversary Bottle release 1990 Proof 86 1L, 43%

It was in 1866 that Jack Daniel first registered his business with the United States Government, making 1991 the Jack Daniel Distillery’s 125th Anniversary. Though no registration records exist today, it is believed that these dates designate it as the oldest registered Distillery in the United States. It is also listed as a National Historic Site. Although Jack registered his Distillery in 1866, he had actually purchased it several years earlier in 1859 from his friend and former employer Dan Call.

In 1990, to celebrate its 125th Anniversary, the Distillery released a 1 liter commemorative bottle filled with 86 proof whiskey. Sold in a box and with a numbered hang tag that could be registered with the Distillery, this bottle honors the hard work that has gone into the Distillery’s long history of success.

Before the Civil War, distilleries were not required to register with the federal government. But in 1866, Congress passed legislation that required registration. Mr. Jack, being the forward-thinking man he was, made sure he was first in line, and that’s why the Jack Daniel Distillery is still listed in the federal record books as “Distillery No. 1.” This 1L decanter, released in 1990, celebrates the 125th Anniversary of “America’s Oldest Registered Distillery” and pays tribute to its founder.

Although Jack registered his Distillery in 1866, he had actually purchased it several years earlier in 1859 from his friend and former employer Dan Call.

Jack Daniels 10 Year Old Batch 4 70cl, 48.5%

  • ( 0 Customer Review )

It’s been 100 years or so since the Jack Daniel Distillery released a whiskey of 10 years of age or greater. Evolving Jack Daniel’s past aged-stated whiskey process, these Tennessee Whiskey barrels have been aging in the Buzzard’s Roost of our barrelhouse, and methodically relocated to the lower floors of different barrel houses to extend the aging process for the last 10 summers. The extreme weather variation at different locations in the barrel houses along with longevity in our handmade oak barrels creates an intense, unique character of Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey.

Jack Daniel’s is now fully committed to experimenting with their lineup. After spending decades churning out Old Number 7 and Gentlemen Jack, the distillery in Lynchburg, TN has finally decided to fully embrace the whisky craze and explore new and exciting expressions for their lineup. After winning praise for their Barrel Proof and Bonded products, it feels right that they are now exploring longer maturations. So, while typical Jack Daniel’s is aged for “at least 4 years”, what we are drinking today is aged for at least 2.5 times that – meaning we have a full 10 year age statement!

Jack Daniel’s debuted this 10 year product last year to raucous excitement, and have continued the fun this year with a second batch of 10 year and the addition of an even older 12 year product this time around. And while Jack Daniel’s 12 year, this 10 year is rocking a 97 proof. And honestly, that seems pretty reasonable in a world of wildly expensive limited editions.

Jack Daniel’s first ever official age statement to hit Aussie shores is here. JD fans have dreamt of this day for years.

A few savvy punters have snuck a bottle or two onto Aussie shores, where they’ve been selling recently at auction for over $400 a bottle. But not to worry, whiskey lovers. You can get your hands on a bottle this August as a special Member Add In for much less.

And when we say ‘one’, we mean it. These bottles are so limited that Members can only order one bottle each.

There’s no gimmick with this one; it’s just good classic Jack, with the same mash bill as before – that’s 80% corn, 12% malted barley, and 8% rye – matured for a decade for the first time since prohibition. It’s been methodically re-racked up and down from the Buzzard’s Roost of Jack’s barrelhouse to the lower floors of different barrel houses to extend the aging process each summer, so expect big flavours of warm butterscotch and soft fruit with a long finish of sweet tobacco and spice. Bottled at a sweet 97 proof aka 48.5% ABV with no chill filtration or colour added for maximum enjoyment. And it was clearly enjoyed by the judges at the World Whiskies Awards where it was awarded “Best Age-Statement Tennessee”.

In 1904, at the urging of family and friends, Jack Daniel took some of his whiskey to the World’s Fair whiskey competition in St. Louis, Missouri. Not many of the big distillers gave Mr. Jack much of a chance, but when it was over, Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey was declared the finest whiskey in the world and was awarded the Gold Medal. This 750ml bottle, released in 1996, was the first in a series honoring each Gold Medal won by Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey.

The first gold medal awarded to Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey took place in 1904 when Jack entered his whiskey in competition at the World’s Fair in St. Louis, Missouri. Nearly a century later, in 1996, the Distillery debuted the Gold Medal Series with the 1904 Gold Medal commemorative bottle to recognize this prior achievement.

NOTICE IT IS A PLASTIC BOTTLE

For the first time since Gentleman Jack made its debut in 1988, Jack Daniel’s released a new brand of whiskey in the spring of 2011. Widely believed to have been created to appeal to the female market, this new brand blends Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey with a honey liqueur, thus creating Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Honey. This 70 proof whiskey keeps the traditional Jack Daniel’s flavor but has a smoother and sweeter taste than the other brands.

Jack Daniels Tennessee Whiskey, also called Old No. 7, has been made the same for generations. Pure local water and the brand’s famous charcoal mellowing system are all it takes to make this classic life of the party. Medium-bodied and deep amber in colour, the flavour palate is a balanced caramel, with notes of vanilla, toasted oak, dark dried fruits and a creamy finish. Take it neat, on ice (AKA JD on the rocks), or pour with some cola and call it a night. This Gift tin comes with 2 Rock Glasses
