The Colour Collection is a range of exceptional whiskies that celebrates two of the pillars upon which our legacy is built: Natural Colour and Sherry Seasoning.

The return of the age statement graces a distinctive global travel exclusive Collection.

Launched in mid-2023, the Colour Collection comprises five age statement malts which range from 12 to 30 years old. The collection is a tribute to the distilleries dedication to producing natural-coloured whiskies. Each release has been aged in sherry seasoned oak casks from Jerez de la Frontera, Spain.

COLOUR COLLECTION 12 YEARS OLD

The Collection is a celebration of The Macallan’s commitment to Natural Colour and Sherry Seasoning. The Colour Collection 12 Years Old presents a single malt whisky which has been matured in American oak casks, harmoniously complemented with a subtle inclusion from European oak.

DESCRIPTION PRODUCT INFORMATION

The oak casks used for The Macallan Colour Collection 12 Years Old are seasoned with sherry wine from Jerez de la Frontera, Spain. The youngest whisky in the Collection and the age statement with the lightest Natural Colour, this exceptional single malt exhibits a golden oak hue, with tasting notes of sweet oak, lemon and vanilla.

THE COLOURS OF JEREZ

With lemon yellow, drips of chalky white, “albero” and “teja”, and a branch from a sherry grape vine, we are transported to the strikingly pale terroir of Jerez de la Frontera.

We collaborated with Artist and Graphic Designer, David Carson for The Colour Collection. He used albariza soil as a medium, applying it to the paper as if it were paint. Beside the 12 Years Old, we see Easter Elchies House, an emblem of the Spiritual Home of The Macallan in Speyside, Scotland.

With flavours of citrus, vanilla and baked peaches, the whisky is a natural beech colour – the outcome of our new make spirit and exceptional oak casks working harmoniously together over the years.

THE COLOURS OF JEREZ

Warmth emanates through this piece, from the soft orange brushstrokes evoking the orchards of Jerez de la Frontera – echoed in the shade of the wave pattern designed by Artist and Graphic Designer David Carson to the repetition of the bottle and the whisky inside.

This composition, with its dense collage of sliced and ripped forms and typography, is quintessential David Carson, who transformed the graphic design industry by rejecting the notion that text and images should be placed within a specified grid.

With flavours of vanilla, milk chocolate, orange and honeycomb, the whisky is a natural, auburn colour – the outcome of our new make spirit and exceptional oak casks working harmoniously together over the years.

THE COLOURS OF JEREZ

During 18 years of patient maturation, the whisky has drawn out the flavours of the cask: the lemon citrus and vanilla of the American oak, the notes of dried fruits, spices and orange citrus from the European oak, and the almonds, toffee, dried fruit, and hint of spice of the sherry seasoning. The result is a sweet and citric flavour profile with dominant notes of sweet oak, clementine and honeycomb.

Artist and Graphic Designer David Carson captures the warmth of the evening sun as it shines on the “teja” tiles on the roofs of the bodegas in Jerez de la Frontera, against a backdrop of vineyards with chalk-white soil – the perfect environment to enjoy a dram of The Macallan.

With flavours of tropical fruits, coffee, hazelnuts and dark chocolate orange, the whisky is a natural, warm bronze colour – the outcome of our new make spirit and exceptional oak casks working harmoniously together over the years.

THE COLOURS OF JEREZ

Artist and Graphic Designer David Carson has brought the influence of the cask to the fore  through an array of rich brown tones that evoke the wood and its toasted, caramel flavours, with a hint of spice.

In this organic yet balanced composition, colours, pattern and textures juxtapose each other, creating a sense of the whisky’s complex yet balanced profile.

Amongst the splashes of colour, we can pick out chocolate browns, orange and reddish brown hues that reflect the whisky’s tasting notes of warm spice, vanilla pods and chocolate orange, and a bright yellow reminiscent of the notes of cardamom and candied ginger it leaves on the palate.

THE COLOURS OF JEREZ

Years of maturation in our exceptional oak casks has created a deep flavour profile of wood spice, tropical fruit and crème brûlée that Artist and Graphic Designer David Carson has rendered with juxtaposed cutouts of wood grain, stippled orange paint, and zesty yellow brushstrokes.

In the foreground, the 30 Years Old stands resplendent, crowned by a burgundy cap that hints at the influence of wine in this age statement, and across the Colour Collection.
