Wormtub 10 Year Old Natural Cask Strength Sherry Cask Batch 5 70cl, 56.1%
Wormtub 10 Year Old
Fans of Wormtub whisky will be pleased to see another batch of its splendid 10-year-old single malt here! As with previous batches, Batch 5 of this spectacular Speysider is aged for 10 years, during which time, the whisky was reracked into a host of first-fill sherry casks to complete its maturation. What came out of those casks is the magnificently richly hued single malt you see before you, it was bottled without chill filtration or added colour at a bold 56.1% ABV. You read that correctly by the way, no added colour – that impressive hue is all from the cask!
The whisky is sourced from an undisclosed Speyside distillery that still uses a rather old-school (and rather brilliant) bit of kit – a worm tub condenser. These classic bits of distilling equipment are made up of long copper coiled tubes housed in cold water in a large vat. You don’t see too many of them around these days, with many distilleries having replaced them with more efficient shell and tube condensers. More efficient perhaps, but what is lost is the distinctive heavy, robust flavour profiles that can be achieved with a worm tub, and that are adored by distillers and whisky enthusiasts alike.
Seaweed & Aeons & Digging & Fire & Cask Strength 18 Year Old Batch 03 (70cl, 54.7%)
Aaaaaand what do we have here then? It’s another batch of brilliance from the ampersand clan! A senior member of the Seaweed & Aeons family, this heavily peated Highlander spent 18 years maturing before it was bottled up at cask strength – a robust 54.7% ABV. A generous portion of the whisky is sherry cask matured, imparting decadent layers of poached stone fruits and candied nuts to the dense, bold peat smoke and meaty malt at its core.
Seaweed & Aeons & Digging & Fire & Sherry Casks & Cask Strength 10 Year Old (Batch 05) (70cl, 54.9%)
Seaweed & Sherry Cask
Back with a five batch, a superb cask-strength whisky joins the ampersand-laden Seaweed & Aeons collection. This edition of the revered Islay single-malt spent ten years maturing, with the full batch enjoying an additional finish in sherry casks. Not only that – the whisky was then bottled at a hearty cask strength of 54.9%. So you get bonus ampersands, bonus sherry, and bonus ABV here, this whisky really does have it all and more.
Seaweed & Aeons & Digging & Fire & Cask Strength 10 Year Old (Batch 08) Whisky (70cl, 56.3%)
Seaweed & Aeons & Digging & Fire & Cask Strength 10 Year Old (Batch 08) Whisky (70cl, 56.3%)
After batches one, and two, and three, and four, and five, and sixth and seven it’s time for eight batch of the superbly delicious Seaweed & Aeons & Digging & Fire & Cask Strength 10 Year Old! Hailing from an undisclosed Islay distillery, 25% of this single malt enjoyed a stay in sherry casks, imparting a satisfying sweetness to the robustly smoky, earthy whisky. Weighing in at 56.3% ABV, there’s plenty of added depth and intensity to be found in this full-bodied cask strength expression… you might like to punctuate with a dash of water or a cube of ice to open up all that flavour.
