Cu Dhub Black (70cl, 40%)
Cu Dhub, pronounced “kaddoo,” is actually a very loose recreation of a whisky called Loch Dhu, which was bottled for only a few years in the ’90s and managed to attain a sort of cult following during that time. Most reviews revel in how awful it is — primarily because it drew its color not from caramel but from extra-charred oak barrels, where it spent 10 years.
Croftengea 11 Year Old Batch 5 That Boutique-y Whisky Company (50cl, 47.8%)
The Loch Lomond distillery is famed for its unique and varied still setup, which enables it to produce a vast array of different whisky styles. But is all of that just a cover for the fact that it’s actually run by a bunch of wizards? The folks at That Boutique-y Whisky Company certainly suspect so. A smoky spell must have been cast when making this one, it’s a peated Croftengea single malt that spent 11 years maturing in a refill bourbon hogshead.
Batch 5 is a release of 183 bottles.

Clynelish Reserve Game of Thrones House Tyrell (70cl, 51.2%)
Winter is coming. The final season of HBO’s Game of Thrones approaches. What on earth are we to do with ourselves while we wait? Enjoy some good Scotch. That’s what.
Fortunately for those who are fans of both, HBO and Diageo have teamed up to create the Game of Thrones Single Malts Collection. Each whisky in the series is paired with a royal House of Westeros. This particular edition contains liquid sourced from the coastal distillery of Clynelish. It sits among scenic green pastures in Scotland’s north, a landscape somewhat reminiscent of Highgarden, the home of the great House of Tyrell.
We’re sure the fearless Queen of Thorns, Olenna Tyrell (portrayed by the legendary Diana Rigg) would approve of its floral quality, vibrant character and dignified label art, which features the Tyrell sigil – a golden rose.

What we’ve got is a superb Speyside single malt Scotch whisky, aged for eight years and boasting a sleighful of Yuletide elements, perfect for enjoying… Well, yeah, it’ll obviously be brilliant at Christmas, and any whisky fan will be thrilled to find a bottle under the tree with their name on it. It’ll probably be great any time of year if you’re a lover of sherried single malt, thinking about it, but it does have that little bit of holly on the label, so, y’know, Christmas and that.

Cardhu Gold Reserve Game of Thrones House Targaryen (70cl, 40%)
One of the most resilient houses in the Seven Kingdoms, House Targaryen have survived a lot of trials and tribulations, often with the help of their fire-breathing dragons. The strength of will and fierce, unwavering determination of House Targaryen allowed Daenerys Targaryen to walk through fire and emerge at the head of the greatest army the known world has ever seen. Under the Targaryen banner she marched to claim the Iron Throne and bend her rivals to her will. The same fiery spirit and steely resolve fueled Helen Cumming and her daughter-in-law Elizabeth as they formed Cardhu Distillery in the male-dominated whisky world. This single malt celebrates legendary women, in the Seven Kingdoms and in Scotland, with a drink that is rich in flavour, dark and fruity with a spicy toffee edge.

Caol Ila Moch (70cl, 43%)
Taking its name from the Gaelic for ‘dawn’, Moch is a wonderful newcomer from Caol Ila and is a must-try for fans of this outstanding distillery. Lighter in style than the standard 12yo expression, Moch is a fantastic easy-drinking dram.
Caol Ila Moch is the first single malt from the distillery to be selected entirely on the basis of its taste, rather than age, cask wood, strength or finish.
The nose is creamy and lemony, before a silky-smooth medium-bodied palate that still packs a peaty punch. The finish is dry, sooty and very more-ish.
Moch was available initially only to the Friends of the Classic Malts exclusively from The Whisky Exchange. We think it’s the best FOCM release in years and a very exciting addition to the Caol Ila family.

Caol Ila 12 Year Old That Boutique-y Whisky Company (70cl, 45.8%)

For a long time Caol Ila was only available as a single malt by visiting the distillery or through independent bottlers. Initially made available via a release in the Flora and Fauna series, the first official releases came in 2002. Known for its peated style of malt (same ppm as Lagavulin) up to 30% of production is now unpeated.
That Boutique-y Whisky Company has been in the indie bottling biz for over a decade and has built up a cult following thanks to its exceptional liquids, and storytelling labels with artwork from Emily Chappell. Now it’s celebrating those labels with a collection of limited-edition whiskies, highlighting some of the favourite characters from past designs, and in full-sized 700ml bottles, rather than Boutique-y’s standard 500ml size! This single malt from Caol Ila matured for a total of 12 years, including a finish in a rum cask, ramping up the tropical fruits and creamy sweetness of the coastal malt at its core. The label features Prince Vultan, which Flash Gordon fans might recognise from the ’80s film, and keen-eyed Boutique-y fans will have seen hiding within the artwork for previous Caol Ila bottlings.
A release of 419 bottles.
That Boutique-y Whisky Company bottles limited edition whiskies from a variety of renowned distilleries as well as producing award-winning blends, all adorned with cultish graphic novel-style labels. Bunnahabhain Toiteach a Dhà (70cl, 46.3%)
If the movie industry has proven anything (apart from Tom Hanks being a treasure), it’s that people love a good sequel. Well, that idea is coming over to the whisky world – this right here is Bunnahabhain’s Toiteach a Dhà, which means “Smoky Two” in Gaelic. It’s the sequel to their popular peaty treat Bunnahabhain Toiteach, featuring a much more up-front core of sherried spice shining out between the smoky plumes.
Bunnahabhain Stiùireadair (70cl, 46.3%)

Bunnahabhain Eirigh Na Greine (1L, 46.3%)
Notice: the label can be other or as shown in the pictures
Bunnahabhain’s Eirigh Na Greine was originally released for the Travel Retail market, with its name meaning ‘Morning Sky’ in Gaelic. A portion of this single malt was matured in red wine casks, resulting in juicy berry notes throughout, blending well with the wafts of sea salt and orchard fruit.
Bunnahabhain Cruach Mhona (1L, 50%)
Cruach Mhóna is gaelic for a pile of drying peat bricks and follows on from Toiteach (gaelic for smoky) as a peaty offering from Bunnahabhain. Although Islay is famed for its peat, Bunnahabhain’s spirit is unpeated (this being an exception that proves the rule).
Bunnahabhain Canasta Cask Matured Fèis Ìle 2023 (70cl, 51.2%)
Canasta is a type of cream sherry produced by Williams & Humbert. It’s a rich medium sweet wine made from a blend of dry oloroso and sweet PX sherries. In short, it’s just the kind of thing you want seasoning your cask. This is a NAS (no age statement) release that has not been coloured or chill-filtered, and bottled at a nice healthy 51.2% ABV. As with most releases from Bunna, it is unpeated.
Bunnahabhain An Cladach (1L, 50%)
Released for the Travel Retail market, An Cladach from Bunnahabhain is a sherry-driven expression with enough spiced backing it up to balance the sweetness handsomely. The name means “The Shore” in Scots Gaelic – apt, considering Bunnahabhain’s location on the north-east coast of Islay.

Edition 14.1 of Bruichladdich’s Octomore series was made with barley grown on the Scottish mainland and malted to 128.ppm creating a heavily peated single malt. This whisky was matured for five years in first-fill ex-American whiskey casks, imparting aromas of smoked caramel, roasted almonds and barbecue pork on the nose, with bright citrus notes, smoked heather and ground coffee on the palate.

Bruichladdich Octomore 10.1 5 Year Old (70cl, 59.8%)
The first release from the Bruichladdich’s Octomore 10 series, this expression was aged for 5 years in a selection of first-fill American whiskey casks (from the likes of Jim Beam, Heaven Hill, Buffalo Trace and Jack Daniel’s). Not quite as absurdly peated as previous Octomore expressions, Bruichladdich says that it’s exploring “a different realm of ‘softer smoke'”. It’s still sitting at 107PPM.
Bruichladdich Octomore 09.1 Dialogos 5 Year Old (70cl, 59.1%)
An enjoyably punchy and heavily peated single malt from Bruichladdich’s Octomore range. Octomore 09.1 sets out to challenge the idea that older means better when it comes to whisky, and it does so by offering up a 5 year old Islay whisky weighing in at 156 PPM, matured in ex-American whiskey casks. Pleasing, they’ve even let us know exactly where those casks came from – they were 51% Jim Beam, 26% Jack Daniel’s, 15% Clermont and 8% Old Grand-Dad casks.
Bruichladdich Octomore 08.4 8 Year Old Masterclass Virgin Oak (70cl, 58.7%)
Octomore 8.4, the last in this masterclass series, was created to examine the effect of virgin oak on Bruichladdich’s intensely peaty spirit. (The Scottish barley for this edition was peated to 170ppm.) To achieve a balance of smoke and oak characteristics, 20% of the whisky was matured exclusively in virgin oak, while 80% was aged in first-fill ex-bourbon casks and then finished in European virgin oak, which had previously held Octomore 7.4.
The result is a rich and complex dram with notes such as praline, coconut and clove matched by those of barbeque, burnt heather and iodine.

Initiation brings provocation. All of the opulent spirit in Octomore 08.2 spent the first six years of its life in one of three different styles of wine cask. French Mourvedre – a red wine grape that has a reputation for producing intense red fruit, and strong, earthy, even gamey flavours. Austrian sweet wines – full bodied and charming with an ability to challenge convention with innovative techniques. French Sauternes – casks from the Graves section in Bordeaux that previously held some of the most revered and exclusive dessert wines the world has ever seen.

Bowmore 18 Year Old The Original pre-2017 (70cl, 43%)
First launched in 2007 as a core-range replacement to the much-loved 17 year old (which became a travel retail exclusive. This is the first version of the expression, packed like this until the range was rebranded in 2017.
After a while some Malt, Heather and Butter are coming through. And all the time there’s a faint Sherry like sweetness. The nose of the 12 Year is quite overwhelming but the 18 year is much more settled and ripe. Hardly any Wood which is remarkable for its age. Quite Nice.
Taste: The delivery is very smooth and slightly watery for a 43%. I think this expression should be bottled at 46%. Chocolate, Plums, Nuts. Sherried Peat Smoke in the background. Again hardly any Wood and very little Spices. The Peat is still there. Light Ashes. Well balanced.
Finish: Some Toffee is there, as well as slightly bitter Orange Marmalade. Some Wet Earth after a few minutes. After about 10 minutes it felt like having eaten a thin slice of Smoked Ham. I’ve added half a point to the finish for that. Remarkable!
