Sazerac Straight Rye is named for the Sazerac Coffee House in New Orleans, birthplace of the famous – and sublime – Sazerac cocktail. The Coffee House was acquired by Thomas H Handy, owner also of Peychaud’s Bitters. Originally, he sold bottles of the Sazerac cocktail, which was originally made with Cognac. Today, this glorious libation is produced at the Buffalo Trace distillery.

Interestingly, for their rye, they have chosen to finish the whiskey in toasted oak cigar barrels (they’re cigar shaped, they didn’t just have a load of cigars stashed in them) from Vosges in France! Very intrigued to see the impact this finishing period has had on the whiskey…

The Whistle Pig 10 year old is the first whisky produced by the distillery, and it is with this whisky that everything started. In 2007 the Whistle Pig team bought an old farm in Vermont to create their distillery. With the help of their master distiller, they set out to find a stock of whisky to create their first blend. It was then that they discovered a stock of Rye Whisky aged in the Great North and underused. Thanks to this fund, in which they saw the potential, they were able to launch their production and create their very first whisky: the Whistle Pig 10 Year Old.
