Glenmorangie Grand Vintage 1997 Seventh edition Bond House No.1 Collection (bottled 2021)
And on it goes with the Bond House No. 1 Collection, in which exclusive vintages are released: Following the Glenmorangie Grand Vintage 1996, the sixth edition, the Glenmorangie Grand Vintage 1997 now was presented.
The basis for the 23-year-old Highland Single Malt is whisky, which was initially matured for 10 years in ex-Bourbon casks before spending the next 13 years in ex-red wine barrels from Château Montrose from the appellation Saint-Estèphe, Bordeaux. During this time it developed extraordinary dark berry fruit flavors, as the latest press release from Moet Hennessy reports.
The vintage bottling was rounded off by the combination with whisky, which was matured exclusively in ex-Bourbon casks, and with whisky from ex-Oloroso sherry casks. And we read as well about “further, secret casks” …
Dr. Bill Lumsden, Director of Whisky Creation at Glenmorangie, comments on this seventh edition of the Bond House No. 1 Collection: “The Glenmorangie Grand Vintage 1997 is dramatically different: lively with aromas of red berries, seductive spice, melting marzipan and floral notes. Inspired by my dream of expressive single malts and in the spirit of the kaleidoscopic style of Glenmorangie.”
Glenmorangie Grand Vintage 1998 Bond House No.1 Collection bottled 2022 70cl, 43%
Back in 1998, we started seeing some of Dr. Bill Lumsden’s first experiments as that was the year he was appointed director of whisky creation. For this Grand Vintage Malt, the whisky was matured in a variety of casks, including bourbon, sherry, and virgin new charred oak, the latter being one of the first times Glenmorangie used this wood profile. This is special stuff, and something of a time capsule to the early days of Dr. Bill.
Glenmorangie The Duthac (1L, 43%)
The Duthac comes from Glenmorangie’s range of expressions originally released for the Travel Retail market. This particular single malt, name after St. Duthac whose resting place sits at the centre of the Royal Burgh of Tain, has been part finished in Pedro Ximénez Sherry and virgin oak casks before being bottled at 43% ABV. Plenty of rich, mellow elements throughout this one (as you’d expect from Glenmorangie), with touches of sticky PX sweetness and herb-y spiciness.

Glentauchers 25 Year Old 1996 The Octave (Duncan Taylor) Bottle No.6 70cl, 50.3%
This Glentauchers was distilled in 1996 and matured for 25 years in oak casks before being bottled by Duncan Taylor as part of the Octave series.
Glentauchers is an important single malt for blended Scotch, most recently a named component of Ballantine’s. As such, it is rarely seen in single malt form. Over the years, some bottlings were officially licensed to Gordon & MacPhail, and 2017 saw a distillery bottling launched under the Ballantine’s banner along with a Glenburgie and Miltonduff. Prior to that, enthusiasts were limited to seeking out independent bottlings like this one.

Gouden Carolus Esmeralda Limited edition 2019 50cl, 46%
Gouden Carolus Esmeralda becomes the 6th vintage at Gouden Carolus. Esmeralda is a limited edition of 8000 bottles on the occasion of the 6th anniversary of Stokerij De Molenberg. After an initial maturation of 30 months in ex Bourbon barrels, a second finish of 48 months in Madeira wine barrels followed. Exactly 600 years ago, Portuguese explorers arrived on the island of eternal spring and named it after the abundance of wood (‘Madeira’). This green emerald (‘Esmeralda’) in the Atlantic Ocean is known for its fortified wines. The notes of raisins and nuts give this fruity and spicy whiskey a seductive elegance. The soft sweet taste is broken with a slight acidity and results in a long, rich aftertaste. The 6th Anniversary Edition Esmeralda was appropriately given a green color that fits nicely with the previous colors. The previous edition,
Gouden Carolus Muscad’Or 4th Anniversary Edition 2017 (70cl, 46%)
A fascinating dram from Belgium, a nation which continues to assert itself on the world whisky scene. This distillery has existed in one form or another since 1637, making it likely one of the oldest distilleries still operational anywhere in the world.
Launched to celebrate the anniversary of the distillery, this is the fourth edition of of this single malt.
This limited edition whisky was aged for 33 months in former Bourbon barrels, before a 10 month finishing process in French muscat wine casks.
Muscat is naturally strong in flavours of citrus, coffee, raisins, fresh grapes and chocolate, perfect for adding complexity to a single malt whisky.
This dram serves up flavours of soft flowers, cereal sweetness, salted caramel, ripe fruit, woodspice, green grapes, apples and milky coffee.
and without chill-filtration or colouration, this is a full bodied, warming whisky.
Green Spot Château Léoville Barton (70cl, 46%)
The first ever single pot still Irish whiskey finished in Bordeaux casks! The choice of Bordeaux wine is also significant – Ch. Léoville Barton is not only a highly-regarded grand cru Château, but one that takes it’s name from the Irish ‘Wine Geese’ winemaker Thomas Barton. In fact, Léoville Barton is still run by his descendants to this day. This bottling is a celebration of shared Irish heritage.
Matured initially in a mixture of ex-Oloroso Sherry, fresh American oak and ex-bourbon barrels, this Green Spot whiskey is then finished in the ex-Château Léoville Barton Bordeaux wine casks for 12 to 24 months.
Green Spot Château Montelena (70cl, 46%)
A delicious edition of Green Spot Irish single pot still whiskey which has been finished in casks that previously held Zinfandel wine from Chateau Montelena in Napa Valley, California. It’s the second in ‘Wine Geese’ series, all of which feature whiskey finished in casks from wineries run by Irish winemakers around the world – the family currently running Chateau Montelena was originally from Waterford!
Green Spot Single Pot Still (70cl, 40%)
Green Spot is a fabulous single pot still whiskey and much loved by the critics. This Irish whiskey has come far from the days when it was only sold in Mitchell’s grocer shop in the heart of Dublin, though its flavour profile is still just as robust. The whiskey has matured in a combination of first and second fill bourbon casks as well as sherry casks.
Grey Goose Night Vision (70cl, 40%)
Limited edition Grey Goose bottle known as ‘The Light’. Bottle lights up for all those important moments where you need to be seen on the scene. Impress friends, onlookers and attract the crowd to you. This is a show stopper.
Haig Club David Beckham and Simon Fuller (70cl, 40%)
The much anticipated David Beckham endorsed single grain whisky, produced at Cameronbridge distillery. A combination of first-fill, rejuvenated and refill bourbon barrel-matured whiskies are used and Beckham, along with Simon Fuller, is very much involved in the development of the Haig Club brand.
The Haig dynasty meanwhile is the stuff of legend, with Robert Haig getting himself into trouble for distilling on the sabbath back in 1655! Cameronbridge was founded by John Haig in 1824, and a continuous still designed by Robert Stein (who was John’s uncle) was soon installed at the site for the production of grain whisky, predating Aeneas Coffey’s famous patent for his own version of the continuous still by a handful of years.
The grain whisky produced at Cameronbridge would naturally become integral to the well-loved Haig blended whiskies and now the Haig brand has been reinvented for a new generation and new markets. It may seem like a scary new world to some, but grain whisky is on the march, and Haig Club is at the very forefront.
Haig Gold Label (70cl, 40%)
Made by John Haig and Company, the oldest Scotch whisky distillers in the world (well, in Scotland, and by proxy the world). Haig Gold Label is made with 40% malt whisky, including Glenkinchie and Linkwood.
