This delight from Mossburn joins its Cask Collaboration Series. It’s a Speyside blended malt Scotch whisky that began its 12-year maturation in bourbon casks before it was treated to a finish in Calvados casks from historic French producer Domaine Dupont! Bottled at a hearty 57.2% ABV, it boasts sweet notes of floral honey and biscuity malt, backed by layers of warming spice and baked apples.

Distilled in 2010 and then matured in first fill bourbon for 14 years, before bottling at cask strength of 52.6% ABV with no added colouring or chill filtration. Mannochmore is a sister distillery to Glenlossie, based in the heart of Speyside, close to Elgin.

Mossburn are cask experimenters, and this Island Blended Malt is a successful example of their excellent work. Initially blended from American oak barrels of whisky from the Scottish islands, the resulting whisky was then filled into ex-bourbon barrels with toasted, virgin European-oak cask heads (aka ‘Mossburn Cask Bill #1’), adding an extra kick of spice.

Bottled in 2022 by independent bottler Mossburn, the nose offers aromas of vanilla, sweet oak spice, marzipan and boiled sweets. On the palate, notes of oak, toffee, cinnamon and barley sugar lead to a long sweet spice-filled finish.
