This expression spent its full maturation (a minimum of five years) in a host of fresh and refill sauternes sweet wine casks selected by Kilchoman founder Anthony Wills to achieve a perfect balance of buttery sweetness, grilled fruit, sweet spice, and floral peat.

The excellent Kilchoman Small Batch Release is a limited edition whisky that uses the finest casks available for maturation. This exclusive small batch release includes some whiskies matured in ex-bourbon, ex-sherry and STR casks.
STR casks are an innovation not found in many distilleries and were created by the late Jim Swan. The abbreviation stands for ‘shaved, toasted and recharred’.
Each cask previously contained red wine, and to tame some of the overpowering red wine flavours, the casks are shaved on the inside to expose the active wood. This is then toasted to break down the harder oak elements such as cellulose. The barrel is then charred to create an active charring layer that improves the interaction with the maturing spirit.
The bottles were bottled at 48,7 % alcohol and no chill filtration or colouring was used in the production process. The whisky is presented in a gift box.

Distilled in 1994, this 26-year-old Lagavulin single malt has been matured in a combination of oloroso and Pedro Ximenez sherry casks, before being bottled as part of Diageo’s 2021 Special Releases. Aromas of linseed oil, polished mahogany, dried seaweed, baked figs, butterscotch, tarry rope and engine oil fill the nose. The palate offers notes of salt and pepper, sweet peat smoke, mushrooms, vanilla and hints of dried fruit that linger in the finish.

We don’t chill-filter our Original Cask Strength, and we don’t reduce its natural strength. So, what you pour is what we draw from the barrel — the heart of charred seasoned oak barrels, our blue peat smoke and nutty barley, in a truly natural experience.
Batch 16 is our most powerful expression within the Cask Strength family, characterised by a 58.5% proof point and notes of vanilla and sea salt intermingled with hints of freshly ground black pepper and pork crackling. This very rare and highly sought-after 10 year old Laphroaig Cask Strength Red Stripe Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky comes from the famous cask strength series and is the successor to the legendary Laphroaig Cask Strength Green Stripe. Bottled in the year 2005-2007 at cask strength 55.7% abv, this terrific single malt is one of the legendary whiskies from Laphroaig, where the rough Atlantic climate around the island of Islay is literally felt on the tongue. The oak casks used in the production of the 10 years Laphroaig cask strength scotch whisky are lightly fired before filling to impart the slightly sweet vanilla-nuttiness of the oak. The Islay single malt whisky is then matured in Laphroaig s warehouses for a period of 10 years before being bottled at cask strength (straight from the wood).
