Description

Kilchoman 11 Year Old 100% Islay Sherry Cask Matured 70cl, 50% is a limited-edition Islay single malt Scotch whisky from Kilchoman’s farm-distillery range. Distilled from the distillery’s 2011, 2012, and 2013 barley harvests, it was matured for a minimum of 11 years in ex-oloroso sherry butts and bottled at 50% ABV with no added colour and no chill-filtration.

This release combines 16 individually selected first-fill oloroso sherry butts originally used by José y Miguel Martín in Jerez, Spain. Kilchoman also notes that this bottling differs significantly from the recent 100% Islay 15th Edition because the sherry casks bring much greater depth, with darker fruit, spice, and smoked-meat character instead of the lighter citrus-led profile more typical of previous 100% Islay releases.

What makes this bottle especially attractive is the 100% Islay identity itself. Kilchoman explains that its 100% Islay whiskies are made exclusively from barley grown and malted on the farm at the distillery, and that this style is peated to 20ppm, allowing the barley character to show more clearly beneath the smoke. That gives the whisky a stronger farm-to-bottle sense of place than most modern single malts. The final point is an inference based on Kilchoman’s production model.

Why Choose Kilchoman 11 Year Old 100% Islay Sherry Cask Matured

This is a distinctive Kilchoman release for customers who want a fully sherry-matured 100% Islay bottling with real age and proper detail behind it. It combines 11 years of maturation, 16 first-fill oloroso butts, farm-grown Islay barley, and a natural 50% ABV presentation in a bottle that feels richer and more individual than a standard batch release.

Collector’s Note

This is not a single-cask collector bottle, but it has real enthusiast appeal because it brings together several things Kilchoman followers value: 100% Islay provenance, full sherry-butt maturation, an 11-year age statement, and a more limited-feeling special release outside the standard core range. It is especially attractive for buyers who want to see the farm-distillery style in a darker, richer cask profile than the usual bourbon-led 100% Islay editions. The second sentence is an inference based on Kilchoman’s own comparison between this bottling and earlier 100% Islay expressions.
