Vietti Roero Arneis DOCG 75cl, 14%
From the winemaker: This is a 100% Arneis wine. The grapes are harvested by hand around early September. After destemming and gentle pressing, fermentation, which is very slow to maintain the fresh and intense fruity flavor, takes place in steel containers at a temperature of 14-16°C. Halfway through the fermentation, the tank is hermetically sealed in order to reabsorb a small amount of natural CO2. This wine does not undergo malolactic fermentation.
Quite aromatic on the nose. Aromas of white flowers, pear, almond, and sage.
Palate is medium body with moderate acidity. Entry is a bit hot but quickly dissipates with distinct notes of peaches, camomile, citrus and quince, which pivots to a pleasant white pepper and mineral finish, which all plays out on a stage of surprising structure from a wine aged in steel tanks, only.
Coincidentally, I have a shipment of Arneis I need to pick up from D’Alfonso Curran in Santa Barbara, so looking forward to a California iteration of this variety.
