Description
Glenglassaugh 36 Year Old 1978 Cask #3064 Rare Cask Release 70cl, 47.6% is an exceptionally mature coastal Highland single malt selected from one historic sherry hogshead.
Distilled on 8 December 1978 and bottled on 12 January 2015, this whisky spent 36 years developing before being released as an official Glenglassaugh Rare Cask bottling. Cask #3064 was personally selected by Master Distiller Billy Walker and bottled for Belgian specialist distributor The Nectar.
The long maturation created an elegant balance of dried fruit, citrus and mature oak. Almond oil, crème caramel, toffee and milk chocolate are joined by orange, lemon, prunes, dates and rum-soaked raisins. Earl Grey tea, candied ginger and warming spices provide additional complexity without allowing the oak to overpower the remaining fruit.
Bottled at its natural cask strength of 47.6%, without chill filtration or added colouring, this single-cask release was permanently limited to only 337 individually numbered bottles.
Why Choose Glenglassaugh 36 Year Old 1978 Cask #3064 Rare Cask Release 70cl, 47.6%
This expression stands out because it combines a precisely documented 1978 vintage, 36 years of maturation and the unique character of one sherry hogshead.
For drinkers, the naturally reduced 47.6% strength allows the delicate characteristics of the old whisky to remain expressive. Dried fruit and caramel sweetness are balanced by orange peel, lemon, tea, almonds, spices and refined oak, creating a mature whisky that remains lively rather than becoming excessively woody.
For collectors, its exact distillation date, Rare Cask identity, Billy Walker selection, Belgian-market connection and limited outturn of 337 bottles provide excellent provenance and genuine scarcity.
Ideal For.
This bottle is ideal for Glenglassaugh collectors seeking an exceptionally mature release produced from historic pre-closure distillate.
It is ideal for whisky connoisseurs who appreciate dried fruit, citrus, crème caramel, chocolate, almonds, tea, spice and polished old oak.
It is also ideal for collectors building a range around 1970s vintages, Billy Walker-era Rare Cask releases and limited official single-cask Highland whisky.

Collector’s Note
Glenglassaugh Cask #3064 has strong collector appeal because every important release detail is clearly documented: the 1978 vintage, exact distillation and bottling dates, 36-year age statement, individual cask number and production total.
Its selection by Billy Walker and exclusive release for The Nectar give it additional identity beyond the standard Rare Cask collection. Only 337 bottles were drawn from the original hogshead, meaning the precise character of Cask #3064 cannot be recreated through another bottling.
Complete examples retaining the original presentation box and bottle tag are especially desirable. The individual bottle number, fill level, closure, labels, tag and packaging condition should be documented carefully when offering this whisky to serious collectors.
