Description
Glenmorangie Grand Vintage Malt 1990 Bond House No.1 Collection is a prestigious 25-year-old Highland single malt distilled in 1990 and bottled in 2016 at 43%. It was the inaugural release in Glenmorangie’s Bond House No.1 Collection, a luxury series created to showcase exceptional single-vintage parcels from the distillery’s mature whisky reserves.
The whisky was matured for more than 25 years in a carefully selected combination of ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks. Bourbon oak brings vanilla, citrus fruit, honey and gentle spice, while the smaller sherry-cask component adds deeper fruit, brown sugar and mature richness.
Its story is closely connected to an important year in Glenmorangie’s history. In 1990, the distillery converted its tall, three-storey Bonded Warehouse No.1 into a new stillhouse and doubled production from four stills to eight. The vintage also followed the difficult 1989 barley harvest, making the elegance of the resulting spirit especially remarkable.
The aroma is filled with heather honey, honeysuckle, orange blossom, candied fruit, mandarin, pear and apple. A silky palate follows with orange syrup, honeycomb, vanilla, puff candy and herbal freshness, leading into baked fruit, brown sugar, malt biscuits, clove and mature oak.
Why Choose Glenmorangie Grand Vintage Malt 1990 Bond House No.1 Collection
This release stands out because it launched the Bond House No.1 Collection and marked a defining moment in Glenmorangie’s modern history. Its single-vintage identity and quarter-century maturation give it considerably greater distinction than a standard age-statement release.
For drinkers, it offers the complexity expected from mature Highland whisky while retaining Glenmorangie’s recognised elegance. Floral aromas, citrus, honey and orchard fruit are balanced by sherry richness, vanilla, brown sugar and restrained oak.
For collectors, the 1990 vintage, 2016 bottling date, inaugural-series status and limited production of 5,000 bottles create significant appeal. The expression also received major international recognition after release, including Double Gold at the 2017 San Francisco World Spirits Competition.

Collector’s Note
Glenmorangie Grand Vintage Malt 1990 has strong collector appeal because it was the first expression released in the Bond House No.1 Collection. The series was introduced to showcase individual vintages from Glenmorangie’s stocks, with each release reflecting the character of a particular year.
The bottle also commemorates the transformation of Bonded Warehouse No.1 into Glenmorangie’s new stillhouse during the distillery’s 1990 expansion. This historical connection gives the release importance beyond its age and cask composition.
With only 5,000 bottles produced, the 1990 is scarcer than several later Bond House No.1 releases. Its position as the inaugural edition makes it essential for collectors attempting to complete the full vintage collection.
Complete examples retaining their original presentation case and outer packaging are the most desirable. The condition of the decanter, labels, closure, presentation case and fill level should be carefully considered when assessing a collectible bottle.
