Islay’s Bunnahabhain distillery commonly produces unpeated single malt, but not always! Its peated whiskies are given the Staoisha name, and here we have an 11-year-old expression, distilled in 2013 and matured for 11 years in a host of first-fill oloroso sherry butts before it was independently bottled by Signatory for The Decanter Edition.

Tasting Note
Nose: Fresh and smoky. Light coastal peat smoke mingles with seaweed, brine, and hints of citrus zest. Underneath, delicate notes of vanilla, honey, and soft orchard fruits—apple and pear—add sweetness and balance.
Palate: Smooth and well-rounded. Layers of gentle peat smoke, salted caramel, and orchard fruits blend with subtle spices—white pepper and cinnamon. A creamy texture carries hints of vanilla custard and light oak.
Finish: Medium length, smoky and warming. Lingering notes of sea salt, honeyed malt, and soft spice fade gracefully.
Overall: A charming Islay malt with restrained peat and coastal character, balanced by fresh fruit and gentle sweetness. Elegant and approachable at 46%.
