Sailor Jerry (70cl, 40%)

A spiced rum created by the famed tattoo artist ‘Sailor Jerry’ Collins. This is perhaps our favourite spiced rum, makes an incredible spiced mojito! The recipe was recently changed, and made slightly less sweet, but spicier.

We know that some of you out there aren’t so keen on the new recipe. You can correct the flavour of the new version very easily by adding some dark sugar and vanilla essence to the bottle and giving it a good shake – it really does work!

Santa Teresa 1796 Rum Single Modernist Rum 1L, 40%

  • ( 0 Customer Review )

Honeyed single estate rum from Venezuela with elements of bitter chocolate, nuts and buttery biscuits. It is made, unusually for a rum, through the solera process: casks of different aged rums are stacked vertically, the oldest (aged around 35 years) at the bottom, and as the distiller draws rum from one cask they top it up with younger liquid from the blend.

One for rum fans to puzzle over here – it’s a pot still expression from an undisclosed distillery in Barbados! The gang at That Boutique-y Rum Company were sworn to secrecy when they picked up this parcel of rum, and it’s a real treasure of an independent bottling. Perhaps there’s a clue about its origin on the label?

Secret Distillery #8 TBRC

That Boutique-y Rum Company has bottled up a stunner here, hailing from an undisclosed Australian distillery. It’s given us a few clues – we know that the distillery is located in Queensland, it’s Australia’s oldest operating distillery, and it isn’t Bundaberg. That should give the rum Columbos out there something to work with.

Produced from Queensland molasses, fermented for 12 days before distillation, the rum was filled into a selection of American oak vats and casks in September 2007, where it remained for ten years. Towards the end of 2017, the rum was transported to the UK and filled into a fresh bourbon cask for its final four years.

The label features a marvellous boat with a distillery on board, it’s exactly the sort of unusual scene we’d expect to see on a Boutique-y label, but this time it isn’t made up! The S.S Walrus was a floating sugar mill that could be found sailing Queensland’s Albert and Logan rivers in the late 1800s, with its owner using excess molasses to produce rum.

Batch 1 is a release of 420 bottles.

TDL Fernandes 17 Year Old That Boutique-y Rum Company (50cl, 66%)

A superb 17-year-old multi-column still rum from Trinidad Distillers Limited. Nowadays, rum in Trinidad is produced by one large-scale producer, but that wasn’t always the case. The story goes that the Fernandes brand was responsible for creating one of the most iconic bottlings of days gone by, from casks salvaged from a fire-damaged warehouse. Once the initial bottles ran out, the challenge of making more arose, so a number of different blending marques were used to recreate the correct profile. This right here is one of those blending marques, it’s a heavy-column rum that would likely have only been used in small amounts in the original blend, but here’s the opportunity to try it untouched, in all its long-aged glory, thanks to That Boutique-y Rum Company.

Batch 2 is a release of 330 bottles.

Trinidad Distillers 2006 Transcontinental Rum Line

Trinidad Distillers is the production facility for the Angostura brand. It was built by the company in 1947 to produce rum for its world-famous bitters, in addition to distilling bulk product for export. The distillery’s original set up was a single Savalle column still, however this was replaced with a five-column still in 1975, following investment from Bacardi who required more bulk rum. Two more of these multi-column stills were added in 1985 and 1999. Some experimentation briefly took place with a Vendome pot still in the early 2000s as well, however this was quickly sold to St Lucia Distillers by their shared parent company at the time, CL Financial. The company was forced to divest much of its rum portfolio following the financial crash in 2007, but retains a majority stake in Angostura after it was bailed out by the local government to prevent what it felt was a national treasure being lost to foreign ownership. Trinidad Distillers remains one of the largest rum distilleries in the Caribbean, producing around 8.5 million litres per year.

A 9 year old was distilled in 2006 and bottled in 2018 by La Maison du Whisky after 7 years tropical and nearly 5 years continental ageing.

La Maison du Whisky, aka LMDW, was founded in 1956 by Georges Benitah and is now one of the largest whisky and rum importers and distributors in France, and known the world over. They opened their first shop in Paris at the legendary 20 Rue d’Anjou in 1968, importing their first Scotch malt whiskies in the 1970s. They are known for their expertise in not only Scotch, but Japanese whisky and rum too, and their collaborative bottlings, as well as their own independent labels like this one, are highly prized.
