Islay whisky is Scotch whisky made on Islay one of the southernmost of the Inner Hebridean Islands located off the west coast of Scotland. Islay is one of five whisky distilling localities and regions in Scotland whose identity is protected by law. There are nine active distilleries and the industry is the island’s second largest employer after agriculture. Islay is a centre of “whisky tourism”, and hosts a “Festival of Malt and Music” known as Fèis Ìle each year on the last week of May, with events and tastings celebrating the cultural heritage of the island.

Ardbeg 14 Year Old Anthology The Unicorns Tale (70cl, 46%)
Ardbeg 14yo Unicorn Tale
A Unicorn’s Tale is the second edition in Ardbeg’s Anthology series, following on from the success of the first Anthology release, Harpy’s Tale. It’s a single malt Scotch whisky matured in a marriage of Madeira casks and bourbon casks, bottled at 14 years old.
Each release reimagines a mythological beast which might be real – or might be a mistaken glimpse at one of Islay’s native beasties… The story of the unicorn at Ardbeg begins on a dark night after a fête at the Distillery when the clip-clop of hooves was heard echoing around the yard. The workers suspected Rory, the Distillery’s greedy Shetland Pony who’s known for his ill-temper and devilishly sweet tooth, but when they ventured outside to investigate they witnessed a horse-like creature rearing up against a full moon, with a horn protruding from its head. The next day, rumours swirled about a sighting of Scotland’s national animal… a Unicorn. Had Rory simply raided an ice cream truck and walked out of his unlatched gate? Or was something more mythical afoot?

Ardbeg 1998 Almost There 70cl, 54.1%
Following on from Very Young and Still Young, Ardbeg Almost There showed the final stage in the evolution of young cask-strength Ardbeg 1998 before it blossomed into the Renaissance 10 yr-old. As you would expect, this is a mellower, more rounded, better balanced dram than the younger incarnations.
This promising Ardbeg, first released in 2004, is now released another year older, as we follow the path to Ardbeg 10 years old. ‘Almost There’ has developed robustly, with more rounded and full-flavoured Ardbeg characteristics.
The path to maturity 1998 – 2008
Since the distillery re-opened in 1997, many enthusiasts of Ardbeg have been keen to sample our work in progress – none more so than the worldwide aficionados of the Ardbeg Committee. It was to them that we released a limited bottling of ‘Very Young’ Ardbeg for discussion and comment. ‘Still Young’ Ardbeg was bottled in 2006 and ‘Almost There’ Ardbeg is now the third and final limited release along the peaty road to full maturity.

Ardbeg 22 Year Old Twenty Something (70cl, 46.4%)
This is a very exciting limited edition 22 year old single malt Scotch from Ardbeg. It’s a notable expression because it was distilled in 1996, when Ardbeg was under threat of demolition. It was one of the last spirits distilled using Ardbeg’s old equipment, including the retired still that now stands in the distillery’s courtyard. It was matured in ex-bourbon casks to capture the classic Ardbeggian profile (yes, that’s a word… Probably…).
Ardbeg 23 Year Old Twenty Something (70cl, 46.3%)
Released in late 2017, Ardbeg Twenty Something is 23 year old single malt from the revered Islay distillery, matured in ex-Bourbon and ex-Oloroso Sherry casks. The name might suggest that this release is somewhat shy or flippant about its age, but the flavour profile shows off the whisky’s maturity brilliantly.
Ardbeg 23 Year Old Vintage Y2K (70cl, 46%)
Ardbeg Vintage_Y2K 23
“A glitch in the Ardware”, reads the inside of the box. Ardbeg Vintage_Y2K is a series of limited releases of whiskies distilled in the year 2000. Each one will represent a different side of the distillery, with no two whiskies alike. Ardbeg Vintage_Y2K 23 is a single malt Islay Scotch whisky matured in oloroso and bourbon casks for 23 years.
Ardbeg 25 Year Old 2022 Release 70cl, 46%
The 2022 release of Ardbeg 25 Year Old is a smoky single malt with layers of sweetness that was matured in ex-bourbon barrels and bottled in 2021. Aromas of cream, smoke, peppermint, toffee, fennel, pine resin, earthy bonfires and ripe bananas fill the nose, complemented by notes of white pepper, sherbet lemons, candied apples, oranges, pears, tar, carbolic soap, creamy toffee, aniseed, rich smoke and antiseptic throughout the palate.
Bottled from incredibly rare casks filled during some of the Distillery’s darkest days, this is Ardbeg at its most intricate, balanced and beguiling.
Majestic aromas of smoked cream and earthy bonfires are masterfully interwoven with layers of pine and fragrant candle wax. Hot pepper rises on the palate, twisting around lemon sherbet sweetness, while hints of carbolic soap and tar flow into a long aftertaste characterised by delicate aniseed entwined with lingering cream and fudge.

Ardbeg 25 Year Old Lord of the Isles (70cl, 46%)
Ardbeg Lord of the Isles first arrived on Islay shores in 2001 and was released in small batches subsequently over the next six years until it was discontinued in 2007.
The name was derived from the chiefs of Gaelic and Viking descent who ruled the Western Isles during the Middle Ages, between the 12th and 15th Centuries.
The majority of the malt in the bottle dates back to the mid-1970s and, although officially slated as a 25 year old, many of the bottlings are likely to contain whisky closer to 30 years of age!
A hugely collectible Islay malt, that is becoming harder to find by the day. Scored a massive 92pts with the WhiskyFun folks and has featured in the ‘1001 Whiskies You Must Try Before You Die’ book – really cementing the legacy of this special bottle.
At 25 years old this whisky embodies the richness, depth and sweetness of all Ardbegs. Light gold in colour and powerful in character. A phenomenal, much-sought-after bottling of a really outstanding malt.

Ardbeg An Oa (1L, 46.6%)
An Oa is named after the Mull of Oa in the south west of Islay, which offers the Kildaton coast (where Ardbeg distillery is situated) some protection from the worst the Atlantic has to offer! As such, An Oa is intended to show a more approachable side to Ardbeg single malt that’s as rounded as the Oa peninsular, without losing the characteristic distillery style. In the summer of 2017 this became the first addition to Ardbeg’s core range in over a decade.
Maturation took place in a combination of casks including Pedro Ximénez, charred virgin oak and ex-bourbon, which were all brought together to marry in Dr. Bill Lumsden’s new ‘Gathering Vat’!

Ardbeg Corryvreckan (70cl, 57.1%)
Powerfully peaty and immensely satisfying, Ardbeg’s Corryvreckan is what happens when the distillery of Islay’s Kildalton Coast aims to make a whisky with a particularly medicinal style than its usual expressions. Aptly named after a nearby whirlpool, Corryvreckan is an intense dram that we simply love.

Not to be confused with the distillery release, this has a slightly lower ABV at 47.4% and comes with original box.

Ardbeg Spectacular is the special distillery bottling released for Fèis Ìle 2024. A first for Ardbeg, the single malt Scotch whisky was matured in Port wine casks before it was then married with classic bourbon barrels.
“This is a helter-skelter of flavours! Totally weird and absolutely spectacular. This is a freaky whisky!”- Dr Bill Lumsden, head of distilling & whisky creation for The Glenmorangie Company.
