Islay whisky is Scotch whisky made on Islay one of the southernmost of the Inner Hebridean Islands located off the west coast of Scotland. Islay is one of five whisky distilling localities and regions in Scotland whose identity is protected by law. There are nine active distilleries and the industry is the island’s second largest employer after agriculture. Islay is a centre of “whisky tourism”, and hosts a “Festival of Malt and Music” known as Fèis Ìle each year on the last week of May, with events and tastings celebrating the cultural heritage of the island.

Ardbeg 14 Year Old Anthology The Unicorns Tale (70cl, 46%)
Ardbeg 14yo Unicorn Tale
A Unicorn’s Tale is the second edition in Ardbeg’s Anthology series, following on from the success of the first Anthology release, Harpy’s Tale. It’s a single malt Scotch whisky matured in a marriage of Madeira casks and bourbon casks, bottled at 14 years old.
Each release reimagines a mythological beast which might be real – or might be a mistaken glimpse at one of Islay’s native beasties… The story of the unicorn at Ardbeg begins on a dark night after a fête at the Distillery when the clip-clop of hooves was heard echoing around the yard. The workers suspected Rory, the Distillery’s greedy Shetland Pony who’s known for his ill-temper and devilishly sweet tooth, but when they ventured outside to investigate they witnessed a horse-like creature rearing up against a full moon, with a horn protruding from its head. The next day, rumours swirled about a sighting of Scotland’s national animal… a Unicorn. Had Rory simply raided an ice cream truck and walked out of his unlatched gate? Or was something more mythical afoot?

Ardbeg 22 Year Old Twenty Something (70cl, 46.4%)
This is a very exciting limited edition 22 year old single malt Scotch from Ardbeg. It’s a notable expression because it was distilled in 1996, when Ardbeg was under threat of demolition. It was one of the last spirits distilled using Ardbeg’s old equipment, including the retired still that now stands in the distillery’s courtyard. It was matured in ex-bourbon casks to capture the classic Ardbeggian profile (yes, that’s a word… Probably…).
Ardbeg 23 Year Old Twenty Something (70cl, 46.3%)
Released in late 2017, Ardbeg Twenty Something is 23 year old single malt from the revered Islay distillery, matured in ex-Bourbon and ex-Oloroso Sherry casks. The name might suggest that this release is somewhat shy or flippant about its age, but the flavour profile shows off the whisky’s maturity brilliantly.
Ardbeg 23 Year Old Vintage Y2K (70cl, 46%)
Ardbeg Vintage_Y2K 23
“A glitch in the Ardware”, reads the inside of the box. Ardbeg Vintage_Y2K is a series of limited releases of whiskies distilled in the year 2000. Each one will represent a different side of the distillery, with no two whiskies alike. Ardbeg Vintage_Y2K 23 is a single malt Islay Scotch whisky matured in oloroso and bourbon casks for 23 years.
Ardbeg 25 Year Old 2022 Release 70cl, 46%
The 2022 release of Ardbeg 25 Year Old is a smoky single malt with layers of sweetness that was matured in ex-bourbon barrels and bottled in 2021. Aromas of cream, smoke, peppermint, toffee, fennel, pine resin, earthy bonfires and ripe bananas fill the nose, complemented by notes of white pepper, sherbet lemons, candied apples, oranges, pears, tar, carbolic soap, creamy toffee, aniseed, rich smoke and antiseptic throughout the palate.
Bottled from incredibly rare casks filled during some of the Distillery’s darkest days, this is Ardbeg at its most intricate, balanced and beguiling.
Majestic aromas of smoked cream and earthy bonfires are masterfully interwoven with layers of pine and fragrant candle wax. Hot pepper rises on the palate, twisting around lemon sherbet sweetness, while hints of carbolic soap and tar flow into a long aftertaste characterised by delicate aniseed entwined with lingering cream and fudge.

Ardbeg An Oa (1L, 46.6%)
An Oa is named after the Mull of Oa in the south west of Islay, which offers the Kildaton coast (where Ardbeg distillery is situated) some protection from the worst the Atlantic has to offer! As such, An Oa is intended to show a more approachable side to Ardbeg single malt that’s as rounded as the Oa peninsular, without losing the characteristic distillery style. In the summer of 2017 this became the first addition to Ardbeg’s core range in over a decade.
Maturation took place in a combination of casks including Pedro Ximénez, charred virgin oak and ex-bourbon, which were all brought together to marry in Dr. Bill Lumsden’s new ‘Gathering Vat’!

Ardbeg Corryvreckan (70cl, 57.1%)
Powerfully peaty and immensely satisfying, Ardbeg’s Corryvreckan is what happens when the distillery of Islay’s Kildalton Coast aims to make a whisky with a particularly medicinal style than its usual expressions. Aptly named after a nearby whirlpool, Corryvreckan is an intense dram that we simply love.
Ardbeg Perpetuum Bicentenary Release (70cl, 47.4%)
Released during Feis Ile 2015 to celebrate Ardbeg’s 200th anniversary, this is a blend of old and young whisky, matured in both bourbon and sherry casks, delivering the classic Ardbeg note of cured meats, smoke and sea spray.
The Ardbeg Perpetuum Bicentenary bottling was released to celebrate the Ardbeg distillery turning 200 years old on 30th May 2015.
Not to be confused with the distillery release, this has a slightly lower ABV at 47.4% and comes with original box.

Ardbeg Uigeadail (70cl, 54.2%)
This stunning expression from Islay’s Ardbeg distillery on the Kildalton Coast is named after a nearby loch (pronounced “Oog-a-dal”). It’s the perfect example of how sweet and savoury notes can work together spectacularly – you’ll find Ardbeg’s maritime salinity intact here, combined with dried fruit notes imparted by time spent in sherry casks. Kind of like when you mix sweet popcorn and salty popcorn together, it results in something absolutely wonderful.
Ardbeg Wee Beastie 5 Year Old (70cl, 47.4%)
An untamed young single malt from Ardbeg, Wee Beastie has spent five years in a combination of ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks before being unleashed. Fresh, herbal aromas of pear, cracked black pepper, pine needles, vanilla and honey-glazed ham mingle on the nose with aniseed, green apple, leather and coffee. The palate offers notes of dark chocolate, hot tar, smoked bacon, aniseed and eucalyptus that liner in the finish.

French Mourvedre – a red wine grape that has a reputation for producing intense red fruit, and strong, earthy, even gamey flavours. Austrian sweet wines – full bodied and charming with an ability to challenge convention with innovative techniques. French Sauternes – casks from the Graves section in Bordeaux that previously held some of the most revered and exclusive dessert wines the world has ever seen.
Bruichladdich Octomore 09.1 Dialogos 5 Year Old (70cl, 59.1%)
An enjoyably punchy and heavily peated single malt from Bruichladdich’s Octomore range. Octomore 09.1 sets out to challenge the idea that older means better when it comes to whisky, and it does so by offering up a 5 year old Islay whisky weighing in at 156 PPM, matured in ex-American whiskey casks. Pleasing, they’ve even let us know exactly where those casks came from – they were 51% Jim Beam, 26% Jack Daniel’s, 15% Clermont and 8% Old Grand-Dad casks.
Bruichladdich Octomore 10.1 5 Year Old (70cl, 59.8%)
The first release from the Bruichladdich’s Octomore 10 series, this expression was aged for 5 years in a selection of first-fill American whiskey casks (from the likes of Jim Beam, Heaven Hill, Buffalo Trace and Jack Daniel’s). Not quite as absurdly peated as previous Octomore expressions, Bruichladdich says that it’s exploring “a different realm of ‘softer smoke'”. It’s still sitting at 107PPM.

Bunnahabhain 40 Year Old 2018 Release (70cl, 41.9%)
Four long decades have crawled by as this precious whisky slowly and silently matured within our warehouses by the sea. Indeed, the casks that this whisky was maturing in were all but forgotten, until our blending team discovered them whilst reviewing the warehouse ledgers. Sourced from the legendary wines and spirit merchant, J.G Turney, these casks have been home to this stunning whisky for the past forty years.
This unique 40 Year Old is as rare as it is prized – if you’re ever lucky enough to hold one, be gentle, you’re holding a piece of history! As with all our single malt whiskies, this is non-chill filtered and natural colour.
The pinnacle of the Bunnahabhain range, aged for 40 long years: a piece of distillery history. A combination of casks ‘found’ in the warehouse by the master blender (as is so often the case), these long-aged whiskies were vatted to create this rich, deep and complex dram. A showcase of the best of Bunnahabhain.

Bunnahabhain An Cladach (1L, 50%)
Released for the Travel Retail market, An Cladach from Bunnahabhain is a sherry-driven expression with enough spiced backing it up to balance the sweetness handsomely. The name means “The Shore” in Scots Gaelic – apt, considering Bunnahabhain’s location on the north-east coast of Islay.
Bunnahabhain Cruach Mhona (1L, 50%)
Cruach Mhóna is gaelic for a pile of drying peat bricks and follows on from Toiteach (gaelic for smoky) as a peaty offering from Bunnahabhain. Although Islay is famed for its peat, Bunnahabhain’s spirit is unpeated (this being an exception that proves the rule).
Bunnahabhain Eirigh Na Greine (1L, 46.3%)
Notice: the label can be other or as shown in the pictures
Bunnahabhain’s Eirigh Na Greine was originally released for the Travel Retail market, with its name meaning ‘Morning Sky’ in Gaelic. A portion of this single malt was matured in red wine casks, resulting in juicy berry notes throughout, blending well with the wafts of sea salt and orchard fruit.
Bunnahabhain Stiùireadair (70cl, 46.3%)
Bunnahabhain’s Stiùireadair single malt pays homage to the distillery’s shoreline on the north-east coast of Islay. They used whisky matured in first and second fill Sherry casks, with a leaning towards deliciously coastal malt.
Bunnahabhain Toiteach a Dhà (70cl, 46.3%)
If the movie industry has proven anything (apart from Tom Hanks being a treasure), it’s that people love a good sequel. Well, that idea is coming over to the whisky world – this right here is Bunnahabhain’s Toiteach a Dhà, which means “Smoky Two” in Gaelic. It’s the sequel to their popular peaty treat Bunnahabhain Toiteach, featuring a much more up-front core of sherried spice shining out between the smoky plumes.
Caol Ila 12 Year Old (1L, 43%)
This 12 year old is the entry level bottling from the Caol Ila distillery, launched in June of 2002 this expression is light and fresh with that distinctive Caol Ila smoke.
Caol Ila 14 Year Old Oloroso Cask Finish Darkness (50cl, 55.5%)
This Caol Ila single malt has been given the sherry cask treatment, courtesy of the crew at Darkness! Matured for 14 years, the whisky was treated to a finish in an oloroso sherry octave resulting in heaps of citrus and spice to support the earthy, peaty salinity at its core.

Caol Ila 2009 (bottled 2021) Moscatel Cask Finish Distillers Edition (70cl, 43%)
The 2021 Distillers Edition Caol Ila single malt was distilled in 2009 and double matured in ex-Moscatel wine casks, creating aromas of rich fruit, aromatic peat smoke and warm spice that fill the nose. The palate offers notes of ripe orchard fruit, tart plums, rich waves of peat smoke and smouldering bonfires that linger in the finish.
Caol Ila 25 Year Old (70cl, 43%)
Introduced in 2010, after cask strength versions in 2004 and 2005, this is the first officially-bottled Caol Ila 25yo to be bottled at 43%. It’s nice to see growing recognition for this excellent distillery, and this is a very welcome addition to the official range, with a rich, gentle mouthfeel and restrained, coal-esque phenols.
Caol Ila Moch (70cl, 43%)
Taking its name from the Gaelic for ‘dawn’, Moch is a wonderful newcomer from Caol Ila and is a must-try for fans of this outstanding distillery. Lighter in style than the standard 12yo expression, Moch is a fantastic easy-drinking dram.
Caol Ila Moch is the first single malt from the distillery to be selected entirely on the basis of its taste, rather than age, cask wood, strength or finish.
The nose is creamy and lemony, before a silky-smooth medium-bodied palate that still packs a peaty punch. The finish is dry, sooty and very more-ish.
Moch was available initially only to the Friends of the Classic Malts exclusively from The Whisky Exchange. We think it’s the best FOCM release in years and a very exciting addition to the Caol Ila family.
Caol Ila Moscatel Cask Finish Distillers Edition Release 2022 70cl, 43%

Islay Mist Blended Whisky 70cl, 40%
A very good value, Islay based blend which is said to be chock full of Laphroaig. A great gift for someone who loves smoke, particularly as the price of smoky single malts keeps rising.
Islay Mist was created on Islay in the 1920s using whisky from the Laphroaig Distillery as well as choice Speyside distilleries. Initially blended for the 21st birthday celebration of the son and heir of the then Lord Sargadale, this gold-medal winning whisky still carries the seal of the Lord of the Isles.
Staying true to the founding recipe, Islay Mist remains the original peated blend with characteristic balanced smoky and peaty tones between layers of mellow oaky maltiness.
Islay Single Malt 29 Year Old Oloroso Cask Finish Darkness (50cl, 50.9%)
Hailing from an undisclosed Islay distillery, this single malt matured for a generous 29 years, including a finish in a custom-made oloroso sherry octave cask. You know what that means? It was bottled up by Darkness! The sherry cask brings rich notes of dates, stewed fruits, and tinned peaches to the coastal, tarry smoke at its core.

Kilchoman Casado 70cl, 46%
A limited-edition single malt from Kilchoman, Casado takes its name from the Portuguese word for marriage. Initially matured in 38 first-fill ex-bourbon barrels, it was then married in a pair of Portuguese red wine vats for two years before it was bottled. Aromas of intense campfire smoke, ripe plums, cherries, peaches, marzipan and sea spray fill the nose, complemented by notes of black pepper, salty peat smoke, apricot, lemon, stewed plums, apricot jam and rich smoke throughout the palate and lingering in the finish.
